Cherkasy First City Gymnasia Participates in the British Council Project “Connecting Classrooms”

In spring of 2010 the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine and the British Council in Ukraine invited the schools throughout Ukraine to take part in the project "Connecting Classrooms" which will contribute to the establishment of long-term partnership between schools in Great Britain and schools in more than 60 countries of the world. The initiated project will help schools to introduce international dimension in school curricula and build the bridges of understanding among the youth of different countries on the principles of mutual understanding and trust in favor of creating a safer world in the future. 

The selection of participants took place on the competitive basis. Invitations for participating in the project were granted to the schools which went through the competition successfully. The project in Ukraine lasts 3 years (2011-2013). According to the project conception each school establishes partnership links amid a partnering group. This group comprises schools from Great Britain, 2 European Union countries and the country which is not a member of the European Union. In each region of Ukraine a school will appear to become a unit of the so-called "globalized dimension", the implementation of which will definitely become the basis of this project. In its frames joint projects will be realized which will favor the further education development, its internationalization, professional teachers and school administration development and the development of the students' competences. Furthermore, in the process of the project realization teachers and students from different countries will get to know more about Ukraine, its history, culture and education. In frames of the project in 2012 its participants will work on 3 themes: "200th Anniversary of Charles Dickens' Birth", "London Olympics - 2012" and "BBC School News Report".

Cherkasy First City Gymnasia, UNESCO Associated School has successfully got the right to take part in this international project. The school coordinator of the British Council project "Connecting Classrooms" is Nadiya Ananieva, Ph D in Pedagogy, Deputy Headteacher.
