E-Twinning Project “Meet My Country” Summary

07.06.2014

Cherkasy First City Gymnasia, Ukraine, joined the E-twinning project “Meet My Country” in the winter of 2014.  The project “Meet My Country” was initiated by Giovanna Gorziglia, a teacher of English from Genova, Italy. There are 16 teachers and 9 pupils from different countries of the world who participate in the project.  Actually, we participated in several stages of the project. First, we took part in the project devoted to Christmas celebrations. The students, members of the International School Theatre, eagerly performed in Christian scenes. They staged three performances, we videoed them and took photos of them. The photos of Christmas celebrations were uploaded on the project webpage.

We also had a chance to look at the works of students from foreign countries. Then we participated in the Easter project which took the biggest amount of time. During the project we could organize pen-pal correspondence by regular post between Ukrainian and Italian students. We received two packages with letters from the Italian pen-pals.  Ukrainian students from grades 1 – 4 (240 students) prepared their Easter crafts, we took pictures of them and uploaded them on Twinspace. The students also decided to send two packages with the best children’s handmade things to Pierre Thouar School in Genova and one package to the school in Croatia. The students’ parents whole-heartedly supported us in raising the money for mailing the packages to foreign countries because it was really expensive.

At the moment we are supporting friendly links with the Italian, Greek and Croatian schools. The final steps of the project included preparing posters about Ukrainian national and religious holidays, taking photos of them and uploading them on Twinspace.

We are also going to summarize all the work done in the project, analyze strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats. As part of our work in Etwinning project, two teachers of our school, Iryna Korniienko and Tetiana Belyayeva, took part in the webinar called “Is your classroom really inclusive?” which took place on April 29, 2014 and received the Certificates of Attendance.

We think that the participation in the project has brought the teachers and students from different countries closer together, taught us to work in teams and motivated us for future project work in Etwinning. We want to express our gratitude to Giovanna Gorziglia who united so many participants in this wonderful E-twinning project.
