Recently we have received an order of the Municipal office of teaching methods "On conducting qualifying - training sessions", identifying the participants of IV stage of the All-Ukrainian Olympiads that will take part at them.17 pupils from our Gymnasia are identifined by this order as the participants of the qualifying - training sessions and probable participants of the Olympiads. Besides, our oblast (region) will be also represented by 15 pupils from PhyMLY, 8 pupils from School No. 17, 5 pupils from Gymnasia No. 9 and Gymnasia No. 31 and 3 pupils from HLL.
An operational phase of the project of the European Union eTwinning Plus for general educational institutions of Ukraine has been launched. This project is aimed at attracting secondary schools of Ukraine to the European united Internet network in order to exchange initiatives, organize cooperation, implement student exchanges, etc.
On February 26, 2013 a meeting for principals and teachers of 77 schools was held at the Ministry of Education and Science, Youth and Sport of Ukraine to provide information on the above project and the way of its implementation. By the way, on the initiative of the British Council in Ukraine all 29 schools that participated in the project "Connecting Classrooms" were made the project participants.
The private enterprise AFISHA (POSTER) has manufactured and installed a new stand – THEFCG’S INTERNATIONAL ACTIVITIES on the first floor of the Gymnasia. On the stand there is a large political map of the world, current flags of all countries of the world, as well as the history of the Gymnasia’s international cooperation for the last 25 years marked in a specific way. The completed projects as well as current ones are marked on the map. Besides, the Gymnasia pupils can learn about the current international projects in which our Gymnasia participates. The stand will be another stop of the guide groups, whose activities are coordinated by Karpenko T.F., a teacher of History.
On February, 26 an extraordinary meeting of the Interact was held. The Club members discussed the election of the club’s president. Until that day, Sukhobrus Igor, who is also the FCG president, performed the president’s duties.

European Youth Parliament (EYP) http://www.eyp-ua.org/ua was founded in 1987 as a pan-European school project, which spreads and promotes the idea of united Europe and European citizenship. Since its foundation several FCG pupils have been EYP active members. Now Myroslava Savis’ko (Form 10) and Denys Andrushchenko (Form 11) are members of the parliament.
Recently it has come to our knowledge that Denys was elected a member of the International Session of the World project in Tbilisi, where he will represent EYP-Ukraine.
On February 20, the list of the best ambassadors, foreign ones working in Ukraine, as well as Ukraine’s ones working abroad, was announced. The formation of the rating is traditionally carried out annually, this time it was done for the sixth time. The ambassadors were evaluated according to a 10-point scale by 27 Ukrainian experts, and one of the main evaluation criteria was the publicity of the diplomats’ work and their participation in various social, political and cultural events.

From 1 to 5 February, an International competition "Musical World" under the auspices of the International Company «Sound`s Life » (Moscow, Russia) took place in the northern capital of Russia. It was traditionally held in the presentable "Chaplin Hall" - the cultural center of the hotel "SAINT PETERSBURG" with a view of the Neva and the legendary cruiser "Aurora". The participants of the competition were represented by creative groups and soloists from all over the vast Russia: Moscow and St. Petersburg, the Arctic, the Urals, Siberia, Vladivostok, Kyzyl, Kazan, Ufa, Vologda, Saratov, Perm, Petrozavodsk, as well as representatives of Belarus and Ukraine aged 5 to 25, who demonstrated their skills in the categories of vocal, instrumental music, choreography and theater genre. Altogether, about 200 artists participated in the contest.
Two FCG schoolgirls participated in this contest and won bronze medals. Thereby, Kotolup Nastia, Form 6A, performed the aria of Amarilli, ZhovtaVeronika, Form 2B, performed "It was in Carolina" and surely won.
Sluchinska Valeriya and Alexandrova Dariya took part in the International Basic Sciences Knowledge Contest and became its winners. The Ministry of Social Policy held a contest among the gifted children-winners at the initiative of the Open International University of Human Development “Ukraine,” and our girls received the right to rest in ARTEK this April.
However, for the receiving of the voucher, the girls should give the jury video presentations of their scientific preferences.
The project is coordinated at the Gymnasia by Zamuruyeva Anna Olehivna, an English teacher.

The action "Children’s Hearts", carried out by the public organization "Cherkassy Center" of the Rotary Club, starts again. The action of emergency aid to sick children in Ukraine started in 1997, when the first children from Ukraine were sent to Germany. Since then, every year two Ukrainian children with congenital heart diseases have received emergency operations at the cardiology center "Bodensee" in Konstanz on account of "Konstanz -Rheintor" of the Rotary Club.All in all, in this period 29 children have been treated in Germany. The results of the operations were positive. Children from all regions of Ukraine can be selected as participants of the action. All charges, unexceptionally, are taken by the organizers
On February 2 – 3, III stage of the All-Ukrainian subject olympiads in foreign languages was held. 25 prize-winning places were added to the whole-gymnasia “moneybox” (last year we also won 25 ones), including: FIRST places - 7, SECOND - 10, THIRD -8. The first places were occupied by: SOLOHOR Anna, Form 11, English; LYASHENKO Karina, Form 10, Spanish; SLUCHYNSKA Valeria, Form 9, Spanish; SMIRNOVA Yelizaveta, Form 9, French; PALIY Maxim, Form 10, French; ZEMKA Olena, Form 9, German; KOVALENKO Oleksandra, Form 11, German. All of them will automatically become the Cherkasy governor’s scholarship holders.

We have received an invitation from the Organization of Ukrainian Scouts to join its delegation in order to participate in XXVIII All-PolishHartser (Scout) Reid MARZANNA. It has become a tradition that every year, the Organization of Ukrainian Scouts together with Polish sworn brothers - Harcers from the west of Poland – welcomes spring in the Hartser Raid MARZANNA. This year it is planned to join the delegation of the OUS and to worthily represent the Ukrainian Scouts in the All-Polish Hartser (Scout) Reid MARZANNA.

We’d like to invite everybody to join the discussion on the subject. Sylenko V.A., a teacher of History and Law, helped the Gymnasia schoolgirls work on the essay.
We have received the order of the Municipal Department of Education, that determines whichwinners of the City Olympiads will represent Cherkasy at the third (regional) level of the All-Ukrainian subject olympiads. There are 44 pupils from our Gymnasia (there were 43 last year). The most Cherkasy representatives are from the PhMLy (47), secondary school No. 17 (38), Gymnasia No.31 (32) and the HLL (20). Our pupils traditionally constitute the majority on the list of potential winners at the olympiads in foreign languages, History and Law.
A group of 11 FCG pupils will stay in the small town of Rabka Zdroj, Poland, from 9 January to 16 January, 2013. They will take part in the international project "O’Henry" at the "English Point Centre". Besides learning English with native speakers, the project participants will go on interesting tours about Poland. The group was again organized by Kirsanova E.V., a teacher of English
The municipal office of teaching methods has summed up the results of Cherkasy schools’ participation at the second (city) stage of the all-Ukrainian subject Olympiads.
Our Gymnasia is the FIRST with 71 prize-winning places, the PhyMLY is the second. Gymnasia No. 31 is the third.
Among the other ten top schools are correspondingly the HLL, school No.32, Gymnasia No.9, school No.17, school No.15, school No.28, collegiums BEREHYNYA and school No.33.

CONGRATULATIONS TO OUR WINNERS AND THEIR TEACHERS!
It is the eighth year already since a pupils’ center of the international organization People to People International http://fcg.ck.ua/ptpi.html began to work at our Gymnasia. Pupils’ centers of the project are groups of members of the association, which give pupils (13-18-year olds) an opportunity to put into practice the basic principles of People to People International on a daily basis. They participate in events dedicated to cultural mutual understanding and humanism. Thus, members of the pupils’ centers acquire leadership and teamwork skills, which results in the formation of their individualities as well as respectful attitude towards other nations and cultures. Svitlychnyi P.M. is the consultant at the local PTPI pupils’ center.
On the new year’s eve the FCG received a letter and a certificate certifying that the Cherkasy pupils’ center received a bronze medal for the results of its work in 2012, having turned in the score of 290 points.
Traditionally, 13 main events that were important in the life of the FCG are determined on the last day of the year:
1. February-March. 37 pupils became winners of the regional olympiads, 7 became winners of the fourth All-Ukrainian stage.
2. February. The Gymnasia site won the third place at XV jubilee International Exhibition of Educational Institutions "Modern Education in Ukraine - 2012" in the category "School Sites."
3. March. PRUDYVUS Dana became the thirteenth Gymnasia Queen.
4. June. The Gymnasia graduate Moshkowska Yulia received 200 points at the External Independent Testing in English.
5. September. The Gymnasia pupils participated again in a month-long training in Arlon, Belgium.
6. September. The Gymnasiaparticipated in the annual conference of the UNESCO ASP schools and won the third place in the team competition.
7. September. A giant group photograph of 637 Gymnasia pupils was taken near the Drama Theatre.
8. October. The Gymnasiareceived 11 pupils and 2 teachers from the UK.
9. October. The Gymnasiabecame the winner of the All-Ukrainian competition "100 Best Goods of Ukraine" in the category "Educational services".
10. November. We were for the third time among the top hundred schools of Ukraine according to the External Independent Testing-2011 rating.
11. December. The combined basketball team of the FCG schoolboys became a silver medallist at the city championship.
12. December. 71 Gymnasia pupils became winners at the city stage of the All-Ukrainian subject olympiads.
13. December. Work on replacing wooden windows with metal-plastic ones was started.
The second (city) stage of the All-Ukrainian subject olimpiads has come to an end. 71 pupils from our Gymnasia have become their winners. Traditionally, most of them are the winners of the olympiads in foreign languages, history and law. So we have 14 winners of the English Olympiad and 14 winners of the French one, 9 winners of the law olympiad, 8 winners of the history olympiad as well as 8 winners of the Spanish olympiad. 18 pupils took first place, 26 - second.
Now we're getting ready for the third, regional, stage. It is not far off, the first regional olympiads will be held in January.

Our Gymnasia has been cooperating with the International Agency of Cultural and Educational Exchanges "ICEA" (Director I.V. Kobets) since 2011. Recently, the agency has suggested the FCG starting distance learning of English following the SMRT program of the Canadian College of English, Vancouver, British Columbia. The program interested the FCG 8th-10th formers who wanted to improve their level of English. The classes will begin in January, 2013 and will continue all the year. Every week the Agency specialists will provide advice on learning language at the Gymnasia. So, we wish good luck to 24 FCG pupils who are discovering new forms of training and will receive a certificate of completion of the English course at the Canadian college.

On December 8-9, 2012 II stage of the All-Ukrainian olympiads in foreign languages was held at Gymnasia No. 31. 257 pupils, studying at forms 8 – 11 of 31 secondary educational institutions of the city, participated in the olympiads. (164 pupils took part in the English language olympiad, 30 pupils took part in the German language olympiad, 38 pupils took part in the French language olympiad, 25 pupils took part in the Spanish language olympiad.) The best results were achieved by the pupils from Cherkasy First City Gymnasia - 40 winners; Specialized school No. 17 - 17 winners; Gymnasia No. 31 - 16 winners, the Humanitarian - Legal Lyceum - 10 winners. Specialized schools No. 28 and No. 33 got two winners each. Specialized schools No. 3 and No. 9 and the College "Berehynya" had one winner each.
Our congratulations to the winners and their teachers! We also wish them success at the III stage of the olympiads.
