TWO SEMI-FINALISTS ARE PREPARING TO BECOME AGENTS OF CHANGE.*

At the end of the previous year in Ukraine was announced the launch of the national Go Global program for English teachers. The project is going to be implemented in the framework of the announced year of learning English. We have received the confirmation that two gymnasia teachers Momot Y. V. and Basysta L. M. were selected to participate in the second round and at the end of February will go to participate in the next qualifying round.

 

Go Global is a non-party and non-governmental initiative, managed by the Coordination office, which facilitates the operation of the initiative, coordinates and provides communications support, and is supported by the National Council of Reforms of Ukraine.

 

Its key points include: - a joint initiative of social activists, governments, international and national partners, aimed at strengthening an obligation to learn foreign languages and improve knowledge through educational programs and trainings; - improvement of the level of knowledge of all foreign languages is on the agenda: this year’s priority is learning and using English.

INTERNATIONAL ACTIVITIES: THE INTERACT HELD A SKYPE CONFERENCE.*

On January 21, the Interact took part in the first Skype conference with a similar club in Pennsylvania, which operates on the basis of Coudersport Jr-Sr High School.  The club members told each other about themselves and their completed projects. The Americans spoke about their numerous achievements, and our Interact members spoke about their own accomplishments for 12 years of existence of this public children's association.

 

After finishing the conference the Interact members vividly discussed what they had heard and made plans for the future.

 

The conference participants agreed to meet again soon in the studios for communication.

THE 75TH ISSUE OF "HYMNAZYST" WAS PUBLISHED.*

21.01.2016

On January 21, the next edition of HYMNAZYST was delivered from Vinnitsa (it is there that the newspaper is printed). Its number is 75 and it contains 32 pages of text and photos. About a third of the materials is dedicated to the 135th anniversary of the gymnasia. The newspaper contains the materials that tell about the Interact, Scouts, give the names of all the winners of the city round of the subject olympiads, there are two comprehensive materials from the finalists of the FLEX program Polina Samoilenko and the international  program Rotary’s Youth Tetyana Hnatenko. In the newspaper, the readers will find several creative materials, there is an interesting article -an offer from Myroslava Savis’ko, a former gymnasia pupil, etc.

 

On Monday, January 25, all the gymnasia pupils are going to receive a copy of the gymnasia newspaper, and starting with next Monday one can find it online.

 

The newspaper was published with a run of 1, 200 copies under the editorship of Anastasia Kovalenko.

INTERNATIONAL ACTIVITIES: THE GYMNASIA WAS VISITED BY THE REPRESENTATIVE OF THE PEACE CORPS.*

On January 20, the gymnasia was visited by Zhanna Hrytsenko, the Manager of the program of future service of Peace Corps volunteers in Ukraine. She met with the principal and Ovcharova N. A., an English teacher. They discussed the issue of receiving a volunteer from this organization, and creating of appropriate conditions for the project.

 

Zhanna Petrivna presented the gymnasia with a folder of books and manuals that would be used by teachers of English in their work.

 

Finding housing for the volunteer starting with the September of this year remains actual. The proposals are to be submitted to the principal’s office.

WE ALSO HAVE THE MOST COMPLETE EDITION OF THE FAMOUS GRADUATE'S WORKS. *

On December 14, the first most complete publication of Mykhailo Dray-Khmara’s works in Cherkasy Region was presented at Cherkasy National University named after Bohdan Khmelnytsky. Our principal was at the presentation too.

 

The book of 710 pages was published in the "Naukova Dumka" (Scientific thought) publishing house. The Preface to the publication was made by Ivan Dziuba and Mykola Tomenko. "Tvory" (Works) by Mykhailo Dray-Khmara was published as part of the budget program "Ukrainian book" with support of the State Committee for television and radio broadcasting of Ukraine.

 

The publication contains poetry, poetic translations, research materials, diary 20-ies and correspondence dray-Cloud, works of literary criticism and reviews.

 

Let us remind the visitors that Dray-Khmara is our gymnasia’s graduate that is proved in his numerous memoirs and poems, as for example in the poem CHERKASY.

 

Two copies of the book have already been transferred to our library where they can be freely borrowed from.

THE SCOUTS ARE ONCE AGAIN PACKING THEIR BAGS.*

Six students, along with Maxim Pomoynitskiy, a scout-leader, are going to spend this week in the winter camp SCHOOL of LEADERS in the Carpathians (the village of Verkhovyna, Ivano-Frankivsk Region). They expect a lot of training, exchanging experience, studying in winter conditions.

Kuklenko Polina,  Solomka Yana, Biel’ska, Anna, Polulyakh Denys, Koliesnik Yehor and Strilets’ka Polina are going to Ivano-Frankivsk Region.

 

 

On our scouts’ return, an important meeting with foreigners is being expected.

20 MOST IMPORTANT EVENTS IN THE LIFE OF THE GYMNASIA IN 2015.*

The last day of the year the administration and the editorial board of the website traditionally publish the most important dates in the life of the gymnasia:

 

1. The celebration of the gymnasia’s 135th anniversary (26. 11. 2015);

 

2. The gymnasia was among the TOP 200 best gymnasias and lyceums of Ukraine according to the results of EIT-2015 (April).

 

3. A summer language camp was organized for the first time (June).

 

4. GYMNAZYST took the first place in the nomination "THE BEST NEWSPAPER ACCORDING TO THE CONTENT" in the international competition of school press, Mykolaiv (April).

 

5. A regional seminar of the principals of gymnasias, lyceums and collegiums of the region held in the gymnasia (April).

 

6. Three national winners of the FLEX program and one participant of the Rotary annual exchanges were named (March-April).

 

7. 6 gymnasia pupils became prize winners of IV stage of the nationwide subject Olympiads and III stage of the MiAS (March).

 

8. Our website won the second place in the 5th competition of gymnasia sites conducted by the Internet Association of Ukraine (April).

 

9. A contest of oratory in English was held by Klaipeda University LCC for the first time at the gymnasia (March).

 

10. The Ministry of education issued an order  on conducting research-experimental work on the subject "Didactic provisions of the variable component of the contents of teaching foreign languages at primary and secondary schools" on the basis of the gymnasia in 2015-2020 (January).

 

11. The gymnasia’s staircase was renovated (July-August).

 

12. The gymnasia bells became melodious (January).

 

13. Two editions of the newspaper "GYMNAZYST" were released (January and December).

 

14. The regional pupil competition of young neoclassics "The figure of Mykhailo Dray- Khmara and his work in the context of Ukrainian and world literature and culture" was held (April).

 

15. Form 8-A became the gymnasia's football cup winner among boys (May).

 

16. Marie-France BARBIER-MATHIS, the president of the Association "Ukraine Deux Luxembourgs" visited the gymnasia (May).

 

17. The repairing of the facade continued (September-December).

 

18. The project "Save energy", administered by the Association "Energy-efficient Cities of Ukraine" and the Goethe Institute in Kyiv, was implemented (September-November).

 

19. The gymnasia's garden was founded (November).

 

20. The scouts once again brought and distributed the Peace Light of Bethlehem (December).

CHARITY: "DEAR PASSERS-BY" PARTICIPATED IN THE CONCERT.*

On December 26, a charity concert in support of children-orphans, organized by the Civic Corps "Azov", was held in the cinema "Ukraine". The group "Dear Passers-by" also decided to present the children with a Christmas mood and decided by taking part in the concert.

Among the five members of the band there are three FCG pupils: Illya Lagutin, Oleksiy Chugai and Daria. Tsykunova. The group was only established on March 1 this year, but the founders are set only on success. The group is gaining strength and is becoming more and more popular in Cherkasy. 

 

In the future, our musicians may achieve the level of Andriy Khlyvnyuk ("Boombox"), who "kicked off" in the gymnasia.

CITY OLYMPIADS: RATING-2015*

The Municipal Office of teaching methods study has summed up the results of the second (city) stage of the all-Ukrainian subject Olympiads, held in 2015, and has set the rating of schools of the regional centre. Our gymnasia took the SECOND place, the first in the rating was secondary school No. 32, third was Gymnasia No. 9, the 4th and 5th places were shared by the HLL and the PhML and then followed School No. 28, School No. 17, the Berehynya Collegium, Gymnasia No. 31 and others. Our best results are in Law, Foreign languages, History, Geography and Mathematics.

 

The rating is the sum of the indicators of the number of students participating in the Olympiads and of those who have become prize winners respectively and it is rather conventional.

THE MUNICIPAL STAGE OF THE OLYMPIAD - 61 WINNERS*

23.12.2015

The municipal stage of all-Ukrainian subject Olympiads has ended.  There were 61 winners among our gymnasia students, including the 17 first place winners, 19 second place winners and 25 third place winners.

 

Most of the prizes were won in English (15), Spanish (8), History and French (6), biology and Law (5). There are prizes in Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Computer math (for the first time), Ecology and Ukrainian.

 Now, the selection of the winners for the regional stage of the Olympiad is taking place, which will be held in January next year.

 

The names of the prize-winners and their teachers will be placed in the section OLYMPIAD WINNERS.

THE BETHLEHEM LIGHT OF PEACE IS IN THE GYMNASIA ALREADY.*

21.12.2015

On December 19 our gymnasia scouts (Kuklenko Polina, Denis Polulyakh, Solomka Yana and Biel’ska Anna together with Maksym Pomoynitskiy, a scout-leader) received the light of peace in Kontraktova Square, Kyiv, where the NOSU scouts gathered from all the places of Ukraine. A day earlier, the NOSU scouts had brought the light from Krakow and traditionally, the next day gave it out to the scout units for spreading it in the regions.

 

On December 21, the scouts brought the light of peace solemnly to a meeting of the gymnasia activists. On December 22, it will be available in the foyer of the first floor from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., where our scouts will be on duty. Everyone who wishes can get one, for this you need to bring a candle, which has never been lit.

It can be blown out in some time and lit at home for the New Year holidays. Our scouts will also give out the light of peace at schools, orphanages and partner schools.

YESTERDAY, THE PRINCIPAL PARTICIPATED IN THE REGIONAL WORKSHOP.*

On December 16, the principal participated in the regional seminar "The elective part of the curriculum and extracurricular activities of pupils as a means of formation of the citizen of modernity” organized by Senator gymnasia and the natural-mathematical lyceum, Smila. The seminar was held by the public organization "Regional Association of principals of schools of a new type", headed by our principal. Two educational institutions showed their experience and achievements in educational work.

 Thus, at the Natural-mathematical Lyceum, the members of the Association familiarized with the institution’s system of work, an energy-efficient project, viewed fragments of an ethnographic performance, etc. Senator gymnasia surprised with a historical excursion into the past. The students "revived" count Bobrinsky, "dipped" the participants in the swirl of Smila's contemporary life, and acquainted them with the mosaic of the gymnasia’s life. The seminar was very fruitful, informative and interesting for the participants.

 

The Association was established in July this year; it includes 22 schools from all areas of the region.

INTERNATIONAL ACTIVITIES: WE HAVE BEEN ON FRIENDLY TERMS WITH THE ITALIANS FOR THREE YEARS*

Recently we have received once again children’s letters from Genoa, Italy. Our 3rd – 4th formers have been engaged in correspondence with their Italian peers for the third year in a row. The coordinators of the project are Giovanna Gorziglia and Bassysta L. M., teachers of English.

 

Our young gymnasia pupils are very interested in learning about their friends’ hobbies, school life, how they spend their free time and holidays, how they celebrate national holidays. The pupils enjoyed reading the letters, seeing the pictures, photographs and small souvenirs, exchanged impressions, wrote their answers to the Italians and congratulated them on New Year and Christmas. The English language unites Ukrainian and Italian peers, and teachers too.

 

 There is a hope for further development of our friendly relations.

ON HUMAN RIGHTS DAY, THE GYMNASIA STUDENTS TOOK PART IN A LETTER WRITING MARATHON.*

On December 10, the world marks International Human Rights Day. On this day the gymnasia 10th-11th formers joined the International Law Campaign – the Letter Writing Marathon. The gymnasia students wrote letters in support of those who had suffered from harassment, abuses, unlawful actions and violations. More than forty gymnasia students signed the Petition.

The organizer of the action is Amnesty International, the global movement, uniting more than 7 million people who consider the fight against injustice their personal affairs.

The event was coordinated by Sylenko V. A., a teacher of History and Law.

OUR DELEGATION RETURNED FROM "SKANDI-2015"*

On November 27-29, VII Interregional conference "Model UN: Scandi-2015" took place at Kyiv Scandinavian gymnasia. Our gymnasia team represented Ukraine at the conference.  Ugorchuk Arseniy, Oleksandr Shvets, Krasiuk Roman, Chumak Svitlana, Kovalenko Anastasia and Ohadzhanyan Arsen worked in various committees and made resolutions on various issues. This year competition was incredible, as among the delegates were also students of higher educational institutions. However, despite this fact, our gymnasia students showed a high level of training, some of them almost became the best delegates in the polls; they only lacked a few votes.

 

On November 28, after the conference, a long-awaited diplomatic Ball of Flowers was held. It was an incredible sight. The participants not only performed dances of different times and different countries, but also enjoyed the artistic numbers of students from the Scandinavian Gymnasia. The variety of dances could not leave anyone indifferent.

 

2015 UN Model was a kind of meeting friends. Pupils and students from various schools, colleges and universities met there. Our team received invitations to the UN Model from other educational institutions of Ukraine too.

 

After three days of fruitful work the participants had only positive and bright emotions and invaluable experience that they would definitely need in the future.

 

The Scandinavian gymnasia hosted the project for the seventh time, and we took part in it for the second time. The similar project is being implemented in Cherkasy too, ​​it took place in October and our delegation also took place there.<0Kornienko G. L., a vice-principal, was the leader of the group in Kyiv. Besides our participants there were delegations from Secondary schools No. 28 and 17 and Gymnasia No. 9.

 

The participants promise to share their impressions on taking part in the project on the pages of the December issue of HYMNAZYST.

A GYMNASIA STUDENT’S FILM IS ENTERING THE INTERNATIONAL ARENA.*

On November 27, Anton Yakovenko, a Form 11-B gymnasia student, was present at the event "Echo of Kinokimmeria" in Kiev, in the House of Cinema among other winners of X International film festival "Kinokimmeria" in Kherson (let us remind you that Anton’s film "Dурман" received the Grand-Prix of the festival), where he met with Bohdan Zholdak, a writer and scriptwriter, a secretary of the NUCU Board, Jean Claude Lejosne, a UNICA representative, Volodymyr Huba,  a composer, Yuri Rudchenko, an actor, Volodymyr Voitenko,  a film critic, a secretary of the NUCU Board, and Yuriy Ripenko, a lecturer from I. K. Karpenko-Kary National University of Theatre, Cinema and Television, Kyiv, Vladyslav Taraniuk, a writer and scriptwriter.

 As it was reported at the meeting the film "Dурман" was among other Ukrainian films that would participate in the 78th International Film Festival UNICA, which will take place in August 2016 in Suceava, Romania.

 

We wish Anton to conquer the international film Olympus too!

Unsere Gymnasiasten haben der Öffentlichkeit vom Projekt erzählt (DE)

Am 26. November wurde in der Aula vom Zentrum des Kinder- und Jugendschaffens der Infotag „ENGAGIER DICH“ durchgeführt. Er wurde vom  Goethe-Institut, der EECU, unseren Lehrerinnen und Schülern vorbereitet. An dieser Veranstaltung stellten unsere Schüler die Ergebnisse vor, die wir während der Projekttage erreichten.

Zu dieser Veranstaltung kamen Walter Degen (Referent Bildungskooperation Deutsch vom Goethe – Institut Ukraine), Kilian Schubert (Kommunikationsexperte von EECU), Oleg Harasevych (der Leiter der Programme der Assoziation), Stadt- und Gebietsmethodikerinnen und die SchülerInnen mit ihren Lehrerinnen aus den Schulen, in denen man Deutsch lernt. Da waren auch die Vertreter von Media.

Wir präsentierten nicht nur unsere Ergebnisse, sondern wir visualisierten auch  einige Spartipps mit Hilfe vom Publikum. Dazu zeigten dann noch die SchülerInnen aus dem 9. Gymnasium und aus den 18., 28., 33., 4. Schulen Minipräsentationen zu den erneuerbaren Energien. Zum Schluss machte der ganze Saal Rap für die Umwelt.  

Im Flur machten sich dann sowie Schüler als auch die Besucher dieses Zentrums mit dem Inhalt der Energiekiste bekannt.

PARTNER SCHOOLS: WE TOOK PART IN THE NATIONAL CONFERENCE.*

On November 20, 2015 III all-Ukrainian scientific-practical conference "Organizational culture of educational institution: from the theory of formation and development to the practice of management" was held at Kyiv Gymnasia No. 117 named after Lesya Ukrainka. Our gymnasia was invited to participate in the conference as a partner school. The gymnasia was represented at the conference by Vinohradova S. O., a vice-principal. A lot of scientists (professors Tymoshko G. M., Ryabova Z. V., Kalinina L. M. and others) and practitioners participated in the conference.

 

The conference was held on the results of the synthesis phase of the research-experimental work of Gymnasia No. 117; we held the similar conference a year ago.

AN INTERNET COUNTRYSTUDY CONTEST "GO WEST" WAS HELD*

On November 18 - 20 2015, the gymnasia 9th formers took part in VI International Internet-Olympiad in countrystudy "Go West", which was held in the gymnasia multimedia center. 31 pupils who wanted to try their hand and show knowledge of the history, traditions and customs of the peoples of English-speaking countries participated in the first round of the contest.  The contest tasks were very interesting. The pupils learned a lot (for example, the other name of a well-known red London bus besides “double-decker”). They got a desire to study and explore the countries in English.

 

         The countrystudy contest is held for pupils and students of Forms 5 – 11 in 2 rounds via telecommunication. 30 participants of the first round scored enough points to pass to the second round. An especially high level of knowledge was shown by Oleksiy Chuguy, Form 9-B (100 points out of a possible 100), Karpenko Kristina, Form 9-A (98 points), and Kotychenko Alexander, Form 9-A (98 points).

 

We congratulate the participants of the olympiad on the first achievements, and wish them optimism and inspiration in reaching other summits, namely the victory in the second round of the olympiad, which will take place in February 2016.

TWO MORE ABC-BOOKS, HAVE "SETTLED" IN THE MINI MUSEUM.*

Two more ABC-books will appear in our mini-museum; these are the ones from Morocco for the Berber tribes of this state. It is interesting to note that ABC-books for girls and boys are different there.

 

The ABC-books were presented to the gymnasia by the Odokienko family. Their daughter Lisa is now studying on the FLEX program in the U.S.A.
