In August, national winners of the FLEX program are traditionally off to schooling. In the academic year of 2015-2016, three gymnasia seniors will spend a year in the US schools, so Voznyuk Ivan and Odokiyenko Lisa are already there, spending their first days in the USA. From day to day, will Samoilenko Polina board a transcontinental plane. On Independence Day of Ukraine, Hnatenko Tetyana, who will spend a year in the USA on the Rotary exchange program, is flying across the ocean. Roman Krasyuk, the gymnasia’s ex-president, may become a member of the European Youth Parliament of Ukraine. We have learned this from the media, Roman confirmed the fact of participation in a qualifying session in Lutsk in a telephone conversation with the principal.
The tradition of participation of our pupils in the qualifying rounds and membership in the EYP began in 2010. This time, three gymnasia pupils, including two final-year ones, took part in the qualifying session of the EYP, which was held in Lutsk from August 11 to August 15. In addition to Roman, Myroslava Savis’ko and Drobysh Yulia participated in the session. By the way, the latter is studying in the UK.
We’d like to mention that application for participation and interaction in the EYP sessions is exclusively in English or French.
The Ukrainian side in the Joint Center for Control and Coordination of ceasefire will be represented by General-major Borys Kremenetsky.
According to the press service of the Headquarters of the ATO, Kremenetsky began to fulfil his duties of the head of group of the Ukrainian side at SCCC August 6.
Boris Kremensky graduated from our gymnasia, his photo is placed on the stand "THE FAMOUS GYMNASIA ALUMNI". Until recently he was the military representative of Ukraine in the European Union.
When the Regional seminar of principals of gymnasias and lycee was held on the basis of the gymnasia in May, the participants agreed on the necessity of creating the Regional Association of heads of schools of a new type. An initiative group, which began collecting documents and registration of public organizations, was formed.
We have received recently an official confirmation that “Cherkasy Regional Association of heads of schools of a new type" has been working since July, and it was registered by notification. The aim of the new PO is improving the image of new types of schools, social and legal protection of its members, the promotion of cooperation development and international activities. Our Principal was elected as its Head for the first period.
Our gymnasia will prolong its membership in other associations of this type, as is the right of each organization.
The Ukrainian Center of Evaluation of Quality of Education has published a research study: “The Rating of secondary schools according to the results of External Independent Testing of the Ukrainian language and literature in 2015.”
Our graduates of 2015 were the 271st among 7264 schools of Ukraine. Above us in the rating were the PhML (16th), the HLL (143rd) and "Berehynya" (257th).
Behind us were School No. 19 (318th), Gymnasia No. 31 (356th), School No. 17 (570th), Gymnasia No. 9 (675th), School No. 3 (792nd) and School No. 28 (915th). Other schools’ places in the rating were from the 1122nd to 5765th.
The Children's Folk Dance Ensemble "Druzhba" (Director Olga Zolotareva) became the winner and received the Grand Prix at the festival "Golden Olympus of the Carpathians". 6 out of 7 items of the performance were considered the best; one took the second place. There were a lot of our gymnasia students among the winners: Maryna Burlai, Form 11-B, Maria Prylypko Form 8-A, Yaroslav Kysil’, Form 7-B, Svyatoslav Skrypnyk, Form 7-A, Dasha Babenko, Form 6-B and Bohdan Hladkiy, Form 6-B. The dancers from Cherkasy participated in an out-of-competition gala concert in Yaremcha during the celebration of Constitution Day. However, it was a Gypsy dance performed by the Cherkasy residents that caused a real sensation.
Moreover, Mariya Prylypko managed to conquer Mt. Goverla.
In the framework of the contest of congratulations on the 10th anniversary of the program E-Twinning, the Ukrainian PSA received 39 videos from different parts of Ukraine. Such a high activity clearly demonstrates that our teachers and students are proud of being a part of the eTwinning community.
The PSA Team had to determine the winner of the contest, however, it was very difficult to choose one among so many worthy works. Therefore, it was decided to honour a few interesting videos in individual categories.
Our gymnasia students (Anton Yakovenko and others) also produced a videoreel, and he became one of the winners in the category "The Best linguistic congratulation."
A certain opening of the Last Bell Ceremony-2015 was the performance Milena Guk, a 9th former. Although she has long been going in for dancing, but she had never appeared previously on the big stage of the gymnasia.
Notwithstanding that summer is in full swing, we have learned from Facebook that “Black Sea Open Cup”, a prestigious competition, which was held in Odesa on June 20-21, our schoolgirl and her partner won the first place in the Latin program and were the second in the Standard.
We’d like to congratulate Milena and her partner on the remarkable victory.
On June 11, at the Dovzhenko studio a solemn closing ceremony of II Youth Festival of TV projects "InterFilmFest" was held. Among the guests of the ceremony were cinematography and TV masters, famous TV presenters and top managers of Inter Media Group. This year the organizing committee of the festival received over 118 works and selected the best 19 among them. Moreover, only 5 winners of the second "InterFilmFesta" were determined among those.
Among the winners of the festival is its youngest participant Anton Yakovenko, a 16-year-old Form 11B student from our gymnasia, who was also the winner of "InterFilmFesta" of the previous year. According to Anton’s confession, the first victory was for him an incentive to further develop his talent, Anton has just moved to Form 11, but he has already determined that his life will be closely associated with cinematography and TV. The whole audience warmly welcomed our gymnasia student and wished him great success and further inspiration.
Anton Yakovenko’s film "The Last Letter" will be broadcast on TV Zoom at 2 p.m on Saturday, June 20.
On June 8 at the Institute of Pedagogy Pedagogical Sciences of Ukraine, Deputy Director, vice principal Ananyeva N. V., PhD, will report back to the scientists on the completion of the experimental work "Organizational-pedagogical Foundations of Innovative Development of an Educational Institution at the First City Gymnasia of Cherkasy City Council, Cherkasy Region." The experiment has lasted from 2005, it all the teaching staff of the institution particpated in it, numerous seminars of the municipal, regional and national levels, teachers' meetings were held, lots of articles and information materials were published in the mass media. The participation in the project allows to improve the educational process, implement innovative methods and practices of both gymnasia pupils and teachers. As a rule, participation in experimental work is not a “piece-of-cake” affair and it involves a small number of schools in the state.
Starting with September 1, 2015 the gymnasia is starting work in a new experimental pilot project.
The Center of the Cervantes Institute, which conducts international exams for a diploma of Spanish as a Foreign Language (DELE) has been working on the basis of our gymnasia for 7 years.
The Cervantes Institute is a public institution in Spain, whose main objective is the promotion of teaching, learning and use of the Spanish language, knowledge of Spanish culture and the culture of Spanish-speaking countries.
The Institute has more than 900 centers in more than 100 countries. The Cervantes Institute holds twice a year international examinations to obtain a diploma of Spanish as a Foreign Language (DELE) on behalf of the Ministry of Education, Science and Sport of Spain.
The diplomas of Spanish as a foreign language are official diplomas certifying proficiency in Spanish and provided by the Cervantes Institute on behalf of the Ministry of Education, Sport and Science of Spain.
At the end of May, 2015 a regular Spanish exam (DELE) of different levels was held at Cherkasy First City Gymnasia. It should be noted that obtaining international certificates is becoming a more needed condition among the gymnasia pupils for continuing education, internships both at home and foreign institutions of higher education. Year after year more and more candidates for receiving certificates are coming here from other regions of Ukraine. So, this year there have been several pupils from Oleksandria, Kirovograd Region.
Bereslavs'ka V. I. and Yegorova Y. S., teachers of Spanish, are certified examiners of the Cervantes Institute with the right to examine at all levels in any DELE Centre.
On May 26, 2015 the Cherkasy Regional institute of Retraining Pedagogical Workers held a presentation of the book of recipes compiled by Marie-France Barbier-Mathis, the president of the association "Ukraine - Two Luxembourgs." Teachers of French from Cherkasy and Cherkasy region were invited to the presentation. The presentation coincided with the great jubilee of the 20th anniversary of the association’s activities helping Ukraine all these years in the implementation of educational, cultural and medical projects. The presentation was also visited by Marriet Fabek, the vice president of the association, a resident of Luxembourg, and its member and volunteer, Marie-Louise Hober, a Belgian.
Mokrushyna T. G., an FCG teacher of French, worked at the translation of Marie-France’s book "Cooking with Marie-France", and the book was published in the town of Smila. It includes the favorite family recipes of Marie-France’s family that are simple to cook at home, rules and tips for healthy eating and knowledge of the art of laying out the table.
On May 28, all the younger and senior gymnasia pupils received another edition of HYMNAZYST, that has the serial number of 74. 32 pages contain a lot of interesting materials. Thus, Valya Kravets, the paper’s chief editor who headed the its editorial board for three years, bids farewell to the newspaper readers on its pages. Pages 6-7 tell us about the theatrical success of Shytyk Sasha, a third-former, who played young Symonenko in the year of the poet’s anniversary. Pages 16 and 17 are traditionally devoted to our graduates; there are their photos and personal mottos. Several previous years’ graduates share their experience of their admission to universities abroad on the pages. Thus, Maksym Paliy talks about his studies at la Sorbonne and life in Paris; Oleksandra Kovalenko dwells on her training in Berlin and the influence of the FCG on her choice (in German); Vladyslav Alfiorov narrates his studying at the university system of UWS in Armenia. Page 30 contains the names of the winners of II and III stages of subject competitions; there is a successful epilogue of the Dry-Khmara contest, and so on.
The first page contains the photograph, which shows four winners of IV stage of the national subject contests and III stage of MacS; moreover, there is a scanned copy of the Diploma certifying that our newpaper won the contest of school media held in the city of Mykolaiv in April.

On May 19, Olga Zakharova, a teacher-methodologist of the English language, who worked at the secondary school No. 12 for a long time, conducted a workshop for a group of our teachers. Recently, she has prepared and published EASY LEARNING by making up sentences and stories, an original manual. The manual was presented to experts at the last exhibition of educational technologies, and it caused a hefty interest of the city teachers of English. It consists of 4 small booklets that are closely related. The manual can be used for both children and adults. The manual has no analogues in Ukraine.
The teacher held a master class for the teachers of our gymnasia, showed how to operate the manual, to interest a student audience.
Our gymnasia has been carrying out research activities for a long time. At first it was an experimental ground, later, as an experimental institution of the national level. At present, we are carrying out the third line of experimental work.
It has become known that the Institute of Pedagogy of the NAPS of Ukraine awarded our gymnasia the Semen Goncharenko Prize, which is set for significant contribution to the development of pedagogy, active cooperation with the Institute, participation in the implementation of the results of research work and their promotion.
On May 25, the Prize awarding will be held in the hall of the Presidium of the NAPS.
On May 13 the gymnasia was visited by the last year school leaver who now lives in the US and plays basketball in the team "Kansas Jayhawks"SVIATOSLAV MYKHAILYUK. He met with the gymnasia senior formers, told them about his American weekdays, answered numerous questions of teachers and pupils. There were a lot of questions about the US President Obama, who mentioned about the success of our former school leaver in sport during his visit to Kansas , about the Ukrainian’s life in America.
Svyatoslav will stay in Cherkassy till June 8.
Today he will give a master class to young basketball players, who are trained by his first coach Oleksandr Molchanov.
The gymnasia pupils gladly took pictures together with the famous school leaver, who promised to come every year to the FCG, when at home.
On April 29, two young Ukrainian writers met with the gymnasia pupils. Artem Chapay and Bohdan Obraz presented their work to them and teachers.
Artem is a writer, translator, journalist and traveler. He speaks English fluently. He spoke about his creative achievements, presented his books and RED ZONE and IN SEARCH OF UKRAINE.
Bohdan Obraz is the writer who lives alternately in Kyiv and Paris. He speaks French and English fluently. He presented his book KYIV-PARIS.
The gymnasia pupils and teachers had the opportunity to talk with the writers, buy their books with dedicatory signatures. Our gymnasia also bought copies of the books; you can borrow them from the library starting with May 5.
On April 18-23, Krasiuk Roman, the FCG President, Svitlana Chumak, the FCG Queen, and Y. V. Momot, a teacher of English, participated in a five-day training at "School of democracy," conducted in English and Ukrainian, organized by the Council of Europe, the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine, the European Wergeland Centre and the Foreign Ministry of Norway. The training, which brought together teams from 10 regions of Ukraine, was held in the picturesque ethnographic complex "Ukrainian Village", located 30 kilometers from Kyiv.
The training participants deepened their knowledge and skills necessary for the development of democratic governance at school, met with NGOs, studied the structure and principles of democratic society, learned to develop projects for the development of democratic governance and the active participation of young people in the life of the school and the community.
Swiss and Ukrainian trainers noted good knowledge of the English language of our team, and representatives of European countries (Norway, Switzerland, Poland, Georgia) recognized the successful defense of the project by the gymnnasia team.
On April 23-24, the 18th International Contest of School Press was held in Mykolaiv. It is traditionally held by Mykolaiv college of press and TV. This time 1675 participants took part in the competition. 26 of them became winners of the contest in 20 categories. According to the rules of the contest, printed shool media, wall newspapers, electronic newspapers, etc are to take part. To participate in the contest it is necessary to send a copy of the media and the jury determines the winners.
This year our our gymnasia newspaper has taken first place in the category BEST NEWSPAPER’S CONTENT.

Our newspapers have been participating in the contest in Mykolaiv since 2009 and almost every year they came back with awards.
Today, a group of 7A formers, led by the Spanish language teachers Bereslavs'ka V. I. and Yegorova Y. S. are going to Kyiv, where they will perform Carlos Asoreya’s play "Two proud flowers" in Spanish. The performance will be shown as part of the annual contest of school stage art, organized by the Embassy of Spain in Ukraine. According to the preliminary data, six school teams will present performances in Spanish. The contest will be held at Kyiv Linguistic University.
On April 15, several scores of gymnasia pupils, teachers and parents were present at the dress rehearsal of the performance. As the principal said in his speech, gymnasia theater could be restored at gymnasia in the future. The audience demonstrated their great enjoyment of the performance with bursting into prolonged applause at the end of it.
