On December 6 students of the 9th grades took an international exam PET for Schools (Preliminary English Test) for the first time in the history of First City Gymnasia. It is an English language examination provided by Cambridge English Language Assessment (previously known as University of Cambridge ESOL). Cambridge English Preliminary is an intermediate level qualification which demonstrates the ability to communicate using English for everyday purposes. From 2009, in response to increased use of Cambridge English exams within schools, Cambridge English Language Assessment introduced versions of some of its exams designed for school-age students — PET for Schools. Both versions of the exam lead to the same qualification. Both versions have the same exam format (three exam papers: reading and writing, listening and speaking) – the only difference is that the topics in the ‘for Schools’ version have been targeted at the interests and experiences of school-aged learners. According to the results the candidates get Level A2, B1, B1+ or B2 certificate.
Students of the 9th grades together with the teacher N.V. Khvorostantseva have been preparing for the exam for 2 months. Last Saturday 11 students tried their best and took the exam. They were assessed by three examiners fron Kyiv (2 Ukrainians and a British). The results will be known on January 26, 2015

On November 13-15 the teacher of English Khvorostantseva N.V. attended the seminаr, the aim of which was to aquaint the participants with New York University in Abu Dhabi, the United Arab Emirates. A tour around the campus was very interesting. By the way, the tour guide was our countryman Roman Kohut from Stryi, FLEX alumnus. Meetings with the Vice Chancellor Mr. Bloom, the faculty members and students from Ukraine, Moldova, Korea, Taiwan and China were pretty informative. All the participants were impressed by an extraordinary approach to teaching which was demonstrated by the Dean of Science for NYU Abu Dhabi, professor David Scicchitano, who conducted a Biology lesson fragment. The impressions of the seminar are unforgettable. New York University in Aby Dhabi is waiting for the best representtives of students from all over the world.
On November 18 Khvorostantseva N.V. met with the students of the 10th-11th grades and told them about a wonderful opportunity of getting hidher education abroad.
Every day everybody who cares and wants operations to be completed is activating their help to fighters.
Activities connected with the help to the ATO participants united the Gymnazia pupils from Form 10-B led by their class teacher Bereslavs'ka V. I. "At one point we have all just understood that saving the lives of Ukrainian soldiers and the country itself depends to some extent on us indeed."
More than once have the fighters been saved with body armor and helmets, but these are not enough at the front, a lot of things are needed there – from clothes to materiel.
This time the pupils took an active part in weaving camouflage nets "spiders". It is extremely vital to ensure combat readiness of the forces, so helping the ATO participants helps us better understand that operating with joint efforts is always easier.
We welcome everybody who cares to join to useful activities and hope that our work will support and help the ATO participants.
