On March 26-26, 2012 the International Educational Seminar (InternationalCoordinatorsCourse, ICC) for the coordinators of the British Council program “Connecting Classrooms” was held in Malta. 15 teachers from Malta, 4 – from Wales (Great Britain), 15 – from Ukraine and 17 – from Cyprus took part in the work of the seminar. The participants got acquainted with the system of education in Malta, work experience of Maltese schools with the community, project activity organization, cooperative teaching experience in Malta. M. Zakharova, partnerships and projects manager of the British Council in Ukraine, shared the experience of Ukrainian schools participation in the projects “Bicentenary of Charles Dickens”, “BBC SchoolNewsReport”, “London Olympic Games – 2012”. Three schools from Ukraine demonstrated DVD films which were made for the BBC SchoolNewsReport competition on March 15, 2012. One of the films was the DVD “CharityBeginsatHome”, made by the gymnasia teacher-methodologist of English L. Tkachenko and M. Kalashnyk, the mother of a gymnasia pupil of the 6th form, Director of M-Production Studio, Cherkasy.
According to the preliminary information SEVEN GYMNASIA PUPILS have become IV stage winners of the National Subject Olympiads.
According to our representatives we have TWO FIRST, THREE SECOND and TWO THIRD PLACES. Having already received their Diplomas, MAMAISUR ANASTASIYA (I place in Law), KALCHUK ALIONA (II place in Law) and LYAPOTA VLADISLAV (III place in Law) (teacher Sylenko V.A.), are returning to Cherkasy.
We have just received the information from Poltava that PALIY MAXYM (I place in French) and BEHMENKO VITALIY (II place in French) (teacher Mokrushyna T.H.), VALEEVA NATALIA (II place in German) (teacher Boiko V.S.) were presented with Diplomas of winners.
LYASHENKO KARINA won III place in Spanish (teacher Bereslavska V.I.).

In general, there were 62 participants from Cherkasy region, and 20 of them became winners.
On March 29-30, Voitsyah S.O., the Gymnasia social teacher, took part in the seminar of socially active schools (SAS) of the project "School as a center of community development." This project, coordinated by the principal, has been implemented at our school since 2009. The main idea of the project is that schools are the base for implementation of projects of developing local communities.
This time, the organizers of the seminar, held at the Institute of Advanced Trainingof Pedagogical Workers, conducted numerous training sessions, taught trainees to program their SAS actions, to facilitate, etc.
On March 22, World Water Day was celebrated. On that day the results of the
Second city contest of environmental tale LIFE OF A SMALL DROP OF WATER were summed up at the Centre for Children and Teenager’s Creative Activities (CCTCA) were summarized. It had been necessary to write a tale on saving the water environment. DUDA KATERYNA, a Form 3A pupil from our Gymnasia, wrote the best story, for which she received a Diploma of the Winner and gifts from Serhiy Ovcharenko, the Director of the Communal Company"Cherkasyvodokanal". VODOPIAN JULIA, a Form 3B pupil, was also awarded with a CCTCA Diploma "For the best literary fairy tale."

A chess and checkers tournament, held according to the syllabus of ХІХRegional comprehensive educational activities among school pupils, took place in the town of Kamianka, Cherkasy Region, on March 17. 23 teams, representing towns and districts of Cherkasy region, took part in the tournament (about 90 participants).
Among the contestants was Tkachenko Oleksiy, a Form 5A pupil from our Gymnasia. Participants from Cherkasy won in the team event. Oleksiy was second in the individual event
At the end of the previous year our Gymnasia attached itself to the project “Connecting Classrooms”, which is coordinated by the British Council Ukrane.

"Open World" is the name of a new promising national project, to which our Gymnasia will attach itself next year. The project will be implemented in the next year 7th forms, the pupils of which are now in the 6th forms of our Gymnasia. The project’s budget is 5 billion UAH.
Now the administration is giving the organizers a detailed information, fill in questionnaires, application forms, etc. 6 schools in the regional center only have got the right to participate in the project.
We have just received the results of our pupils who took part in the Russian game-competition "RUSSKIY MEDVEZHONOK” (Russian Bear Cub) having been conducted for several years by the Kirov Center for Supplementary Education "Odarionniy Shkol’nik” (Gifted Schoolpupil). It was for the first time that we took part in this game-competition and we should recognize that our participants did not lag behind. Moreover, 4999 participants from Ukraine taking part in the competition, Anna Taybishlak shared the 8th-11th places. She received from the organizers a "Bear Cub" development game, a key chain, a calendar, the Diploma of a winner and thr certificate of participation. Good results have been shown by Cherevyshnya Mariya, Hanenko Yulia, Kresteliova Mariya, Liashenko Karina, Volkova Alina and Sukhobrus Ihor. All the participants will also receive small promotional awards.
The site of the Regional Institute of Retraining Pedagogical Workers “ОІПОПП” http://oipopp.ed-sp.net/images/dok/olimpiada/2012 has posted a list of area school students who will participate in qualification-training session, traditionally held before holding IV Nationwide Round of subject Olympiads.
There are 18 Gymnasia pupils among the 99 participants from Cherkasy Oblast.
Basically, they are winners of the regional competitions in foreign languages, law and history.
At 1. 15 p.m. on February 21, music was again performed for all comers in the Assembly hall. The performers were Oleksiy Semenenko (Amati violin) and the pianist Oleh Poliansky, young but extremely talented musicians. They performed only two pieces, but the Amati violin sounded so that the spectators that packed the Assembly hall greeted the musicians by standing up and cheering long to the echo.
The musicians even answered a few Gymnasia pupils' questions. Thus, Oleksiy told the audience how he had found himself in the Guinness Book for the concert in a German mine, which he performed at the depth of over 1000 meters ...
The musicians met and had a long talk with the Gymnasia principal.
We would like to express special words of thanks for organizing the mini-concert to Duka V.O., a representative of the Regional Philharmonic Society.
Recently, H.V. Ivanova, a teacher of English, have initiated establishing a new charitable trust DOPOMOZHY DYTYNI (HELP A CHILD) at the Gymnasia. Its aim is to annually raise money for children having cancer and to transfer the accumulated funds directly on the International Day of children having cancer, which is celebrated worldwide on February 15.
The Gymnasia teachers have collected 1300 UAH in February. The sum will be transferred for the current treatment of a 1. 5-year old girl at the regional oncologic dispensary.
The pupils and parents can also become members of the trust.
Last Tuesday, the Gymnasia Interact members elected a president for a new year. As you know, a year begins in the Interact on July 1. So, MOKRUSHYNA MARIYA was elected a new president at the club general meeting. SUKHOBRUS IHOR became vice-president.
Let’s congratulate them on having been elected to executive positions at Interact-Cherkassy.
On February 11, at 12. 00, the Interact members will once again pay visit to the “TEPLIY DIM” (“WARM HOUSE”) asylum. Join us; you’re being waited with hope there!
Last week, a new chief editor of "UNIKALNY HYMNAZYST”, the Gymnasia children's newsletter, was elected. It is VALERIA IVANYUK, a Form 10A pupil. Valeria has been journalizing for the last 2 years, being an active member of the editorial board.
Her predecessor, Zlata Avdieienko, is going to completely focus on her preparations for the final examinations and standardized testing, as she is this year graduate. We thank Zlata for her effective work as the chief editor.

Cervantes Institute in Spain fixed common schedule times of taking an exam in Spanish for receiving the international language certificate DELE in 2012: May 25, and November 9. The time of submitting applications is from 27 February to 20 April and from September 3 to October 5.
FCG is the only secondary school in Ukraine at which you can take the DELE exam in Spanish. Do not slip your chance!
Yesterday, former students of the course of preparation and taking University of Cambridge ESOL Examinations began to receive their results on-line. And, at once, we got a nice surprise. FOUR schoolgirls got Level C1. Let us remind you that 34 students of the course were examined by the British Council professionals on January 21. The Examination Center was established at the Gymnasia in 2010. The students were prepared by the teachers Vakulenko O.O. and Padalko O.F., Honoured Teacher of Ukraine.
After a very strict selection at the training camp in Kyiv, NIKITA VOYEVODA and SVIATOSLAV MYKHAYLYUK, the Gymnasia ninth-graders, having the Mayor’s scholarship in 2012, have entered an international tournament as members of Ukraine’s Cadet basketball team (U-16). Among other participants are teams from France, Germany, Montenegro, Bulgaria, Russia, Latvia, Ukraine and Turkey, the hosts. The tournament began on January 28 and lasts till February 5 in Sakarya on the coast of the Sea of Marmara, 100 km from Istanbul.
Yesterday, 20 senior graders and 4 teachers from our Chervona Sloboda partner school, Cherkasy district, were our guests for the first time. The meeting started with handing in the Gymnasia President Kyrylenko Danilo a big and aromatic loaf of bread. All the partner school pupils wore their unique school uniform, which pleasantly surprised the Gymnasia pupils. A small excursion was organized for the project participants. They were also told a story about the history and traditions of the institution and had a joint tea party.
Those present were addressed to by the Gymnasia principal and Ananieva N.V., a vice-principal. Teachers of English talked for a long time in a familiar way with Tkachenko L.D., the Head of the Methodological Commission, and developed plans for future cooperation.
The children, in turn, agreed upon a joint meeting in Chervona Sloboda in February already.
Let us remember that the cooperation agreement between our schools was signed on February 18, 2012.
18 works by our Gymnasia pupils are being exhibited at the Ukrainian Institute of Modern Art in Chicago, USA. The international project “LITERATURE ART”, directed by Liuba Markevych and Yaroslav Kuchma, is being implemented there. The exhibition began its work on December 11, 2011 and will last till February 12, 2012 inclusively. Pictures by children from Lviv, Donetsk, Kyiv, Kharkiv, Poltava and Cherkasy are being presented at the exhibition of children's art works. The organizers have sent us a colour catalog, which contains the reproductions of works by Antonov Arthur and Zaporozhets Oleksandr, our junior Gymnasia pupils.
A year ago we announced the holding of this exhibition. The condition on which it was possible to participate in the exhibition was that children's works had to be done on the subject of Ukrainian fairy tales or literary works by famous Ukrainian writers.
On January 18, 2012 a delegation including Sayenko S.I., the Gymnasia principal, Vynogradova S.O, a vice-principal, Ukhan A. O., the union deputy head, Burlachenko V.O., a psychologist, and Myroslava Savis’ko, the president of the Center for Children's Diplomacy, signed an agreement on cooperation with School No. 2 from Chervona Sloboda, Cherkasy region. The agreement was signed in the presence of all 11th formers of this school and a lot of teachers. On the part of Chervona Sloboda School the document was signed by its principal Zavalko T. A.
Short-term talks were carried on between the negotiators. It was agreed that on January 25 a small delegation of the new partner school’s teachers and pupils will visit our school.
On January 13 the Gymnasia was once again visited by Vic Jackopson, the ex-president of Hope Now International Charitable Christian Fund. He gave a lecture to our pupils on the life and work of Charles Dickens, had a talk with the administration about establishing partnership relations with schools in the UK. Next time Vic plans to visit us on January 19. We’d like to remind you that the Queen recently awarded Vic an Order for his charitable activity. In November, Vic was received by our graduate Volodymyr Khandogiy, the Ambassador of Ukraine to the UK.
