THE EUROCLUB HAS GOT A NEW PRESIDENT.*

Our Gymnasia is actively working with its sister- schools, and our website regularly informs its visitors about that. These are mainly metropolitan schools, but there are also new types of institutions in the Crimea and in Volyn. There are several such schools in foreign countries. In December we started active negotiations with one of the kind in Yekaterinburg, Russia. Now we are discussing the directions for future cooperation, examining opportunities and prospects. We will obligatory inform our visitors about the results of the negotiations.
The Gymnasia has sent and received many New Year greetings. Thus, we congratulated staffs of all our partner schools, both in Ukraine and abroad. We also congratulated our colleagues in Cherkasy, Kyiv and Lviv.
We received greetings from our partners from Sevastopol (Specialized school No. 3), Lutsk (Gymnasia No. 18), Kyiv (Schools № 117, 51, 1), Cherkasy schools, Municipal Office of Teaching Methods. We were congratulated by the “Vidrodzhennya” Foundation, Rotarians from Poland, the U.S. Embassy in Ukraine, teachers from Yekaterinburg (Russia), the Institute of Education of the NAPS of Ukraine, Ukraine's Ambassador to Iran Oleksandr Samarsky (our graduate), bankers from SB Delta Bank and others.
Life of the Gymnasia in 2011 was full of numerous great and minor events. Traditionally, on the last day of the year, we enumerate last year’s major events:
- January – the information was received, that we were among 100 best schools of Ukraine (37 place) according to the results of IST-2010.
- February – we were entitled to prepare and examine pupils for the FCE Cambridge ESOL examination.
- March – the Gymnasia received a silver medal for participating in the all-Ukrainian exhibition "Education Innovations in Ukraine"
- March - XVII visiting session of the University of Culture of Peace of the Ukrainian Movement "Educators for Peace and Mutual Understanding" was conducted here.
- March - the Gymnasia web-site was announced the best at the exhibition "Modern Education in Ukraine-2011"
- April - 11Gymnasia pupils became winners at IV stage of all-Ukrainian subject olympiads.
- April - holding Queen’s Ball was renewed.
- June – the Gymnasia became a winner of the all-Ukrainian action "LEADERS of EDUCATION-2011"
- July – two Gymnasia pupils received 200 points at the IST in English for the first time.
- August – our teacher Bereslavs’ka V.I. became the Honoured Teacher of Ukraine.
- September - the unique Gymnasia uniform was introduced.
- October – the local Interact visited the town of Jelenia Gora, Poland. In June we will host the group of Polish Interact
The results of the “YEAR BEST GYMNASIA PUPIL” contest for semester I of 2011-2012 academic year have been summed up. Here are the names of its winners:
POZHAROVA MILENA, a Form 5B pupil, has become the best among pupils of Forms 1-4. Her average mark of success for the semester is11, 3.
HANENKO YULIA, a Form 8B pupil, has become the best among pupils of Forms 5-9. Her average mark of success is 11, 17.
BRATTSEV ANTON, a Form 6B pupil, has got the second best result. His mark of success is 11, 0.
BEHMENKO VITALIY, a Form 11B pupil, has become the best among pupils of Forms 10-11. His average mark of success is 11, 18.
Form 11B has been announced the “INTELLIGENCE-FORM”, having the average mark of success - 9, 69.
YULIA MOSHKOVSKA, a Form 11B pupil, has been announced the “PROMETHEUS OF SCIENCE”.
SAVISKO MYROSLAVA, a Form 9A pupil, the CCD president, has become the “LEADER OF SELF-GOVERNMENT”.
The pupils of Forms 7B and 8B have been announced “CREATIVE FORMS”.
VOIEVODA NIKITA and MYKHAILIUK SVIATOSLAV, both Form 9A pupils, have been announced the “OLYMPIC RESERVE”.
The pupils of Forms 5B and 6B have become the “ELEGANT FORMS”.
OUR CONGRATULATIONS TO THE WINNERS!
On December 28 the municipal office of teaching methods sent the rating of Cherkasy schools’ participation at the second (city) stage of the all-Ukrainian subject Olympiads in 2011-2012 academic year.
Our Gymnasia has the second place, PhyMLY has the first place. We have 71 city level winners (19 first, 19 – second and 33- third places), which is 10 more than the last year's figure.
Here are the results in various subjects: we have got first places in the Russian language competition, Law, History and Mathematics, second places in English, German, Spanish and French.
We did not take part in the competitions in Economics, Astronomy, Computer Science, technology, psychology and Home Economics.
Gymnasia No. 31 pupils are third and the HLL pupils are fourth in the overall ranking.
It has become known that the best teachers of Ukraine will be paid honours in the Assembly Hall of the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports on December 29. Among them there will be also our English teacher Tkachenko Lyudmila Danylivna that will receive a Diploma of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine.
Let’s congratulate Lyudmila Danylivna on receiving this well-deserved decoration!
On December 21, three of our Gymnasia pupils received certificates from the hands of Mayor Serhiy Odarych. Those verified eligibility for receiving the stipend from the mayor from October 2011 to May 2012. Let us remind you that this year's stipend holders from the FCG are Sukhobrus Ihor, Voyevoda Nikita and Mykhailiuk Sviatoslav (all of them are from Form 9A).
On behalf of the "chicken" stipend holders spoke Sukhobrus Ihor. The parents of stipend holders, class teachers, school principals were present in the committee room of the City Hall. Altogether 13 stipends were established.
On November 13, the FCG was visited by Javier Larrauri, a teacher from Spain, that is working temporarily at Kyiv National University. He spoke to Cherkasy teachers and pupils that study Spanish, and shared interesting information about his country.
Pupils from School No. 17 and Gymnasia No. 31 were also invited to attend the meeting,.
The FCG principal had a talk with Javier. It was agreed that at the beginning of 2012 the Spaniard would come to Cherkasy 1-2 times and hold a master class in Spanish Studies.
The National Radio Company of Ukraine summed up the results of the all-Ukrainian radio dictation of the national unity. 54 participants did not make any mistake; seven out of them were citizens of Cherkasy. The letters came from all the regions of Ukraine and 20 countries of the world (Russia, Belgium, Kazakhstan, Poland, Denmark, Italy, etc.).
On December 7, the participants of the all-Ukrainian radio dictation of national unity were awarded at the Press Center of the National Radio Company of Ukraine. Boyko Raisa (from Vatutine), Galyna Goncharova (from Vatutine), Horbachek Dmitro (from Smila), Hrodz Natalia (from Shpola), Igor Ignatyev (from Smila) , Oleksandra Kovalenko (from Cherkasy), Mariya Kucherenko (from Odesa) have become the most literate people of Cherkasy Region according to the results of the all-Ukrainian radio dictation of national unity.
On November 25-27, a group of the Gymnasia pupils, members of the international organization People to People International, including the FCG centre president Veronika Melikova, Ocheretyanko Anastasia, Alexei Sorokin, and the project coordinator Svitlychny P.M., a teacher of English, was at the PTPI international conference in Kyiv. The conference participants included representatives of the PTPI school centers from all over Ukraine, as well as delegates from Germany, Italy, Romania and the Virgin Islands. The FCG pupils presented their work of late years and received a bronze award for the activities during 2011.
On November 19-20, 2011, the 19th International Judo Tournament was held in Trapp, France.
Its competitors represented different countries. There were 2 young Gymnasia pupils among the participants from Ukraine. Those were Obodovskiy Gleb (Form 3-B) and Prudius Ivan (Form 4-B). They won a convincing victory and brought gold medals to Cherkassy.

400 guests, including plenipotentiary ambassadors of eight countries, representatives of Ministry of Education, government agencies and academic institutions, gathered at Kyiv Teacher’s House. The fabulous holiday lasted almost three hours. The audience enjoyed the Gymnasia pupils’ performances of the turns that originate from China, Iran, Korea, Turkey, Vietnam, and Indonesia.
Before the festivities’ beginning talks between our principal and KGOL principal Kit Y.P. were held. They agreed upon signing the certificate of partnership and participation of our Gymnasia pupils in a Chinese subject competition in March 2012.
Our principal solemnly congratulated the heroes of the anniversary and presented them with a picture of Cherkasy views by Olga Dzhus, a famous artist from Cherkasy.
Beliaieva Tetiana, a teacher of English, has received a big package of pupils’ letters and small souvenirs from our Italian sister-school. How interesting and exciting was the next lesson when pupils were reading the letters in English from their pen-friends and looking at souvenirs. There were also enclosed a letter from Giovanna Gorziglia, a teacher of English, and the photo of Ivanna Ottonello, the School Principal, signing the Certificate of school partnership between our educational establishments. Next we’re looking forward to another important step in our friendly relationship – signing an official agreement on the international school partnership.
In early December, representatives of our scout squad are expected to go on a trip to Krakow. Just then, in Krakow, the Ukrainian Scout Organization will receive the Bethlehem Light of Peace from Polish Scouts and bring it to Ukraine to spread it about our Ukrainian land. There will be several scouts from the FCG among the 25 USO representatives.

On November 18, our coordinator of the "NAVCHAYMOSYA RAZOM" (Let’s Study Together) program will attend the first meeting of the “Connecting Classrooms” project participants, which is to be held at the British Council in Kyiv.
The program "NAVCHAYMOSYA RAZOM" helps to create a long-term partnership between the UK schools and schools from over 60 countries.
The partnership program establishes relationships between young people from various countries on the principles of mutual understanding and trust, and encourages the study and appreciation of different cultures at schools. The program was created in cooperation with ministers of education, education departments and educators worldwide.
“NAVCHAYMOSYA RAZOM” has already brought together students and teachers from 20 Ukrainian schools that work closely in partnership with schools from Malta, Cyprus and the UK. In general, about 300 schools from different European countries, take part in the program. The membership is free.
The National Center for Business and Cultural Cooperation "Ukrainian House" held a specialized educational exhibition "Education and Career-2011" on November 17-19. More than 130 home and foreign universities presented their own educational programs at the exhibition. Within the exhibition an exhibition of international universities "Education Abroad-2011" was held. Khvorostantseva N. V, the director of the Gymnasia’s Center of International Education, visited the exhibition on the first day of its work. She will soon tell the graduates about the event. She was especially warmly welcomed by the representatives of Wroclaw University (Poland), recently visited by the Interact delegation.
About 20 applications were submitted by our younger Gymnasia pupils to participate in the competition “RUSSKYY MEDVEZHONOK” (Russian bear-cub), organized by the Centre for Complementary Education of Children “Odarionniy Shkol’nik” (A Gifted Pupil) from Kirov, Russia. The contest was held for the first time in 2000. Since then the competition has become quite popular in many countries of the world. We will take part in the competition for the first time.

During the last holidays, the Gymnasia canteen was renovated at the sponsors’ expense. New, modern dishing out equipment appeared. A modern cash register, the first in Cherkassy, was installed. There is also a running bank terminal. We would like to remind parents and their children that the Gymnasia canteen participates in the project of the CB “PRIVATBANK” that one can pay with plastic cards of any Ukrainian bank in for the eaten food in the canteen. The service is free of charge, and essentially convenient.
On November 1 the Gymnasia was visited by artists from Rome: Ezio Monti, a conductor, and Fermo Roscigno, a pianist, and Duka V.O., the director of the Cherkasy Regional Children's Philharmonic. There was a meeting of the artists with the pupils of Forms 9-11 in the assembly hall, during which F. Roscigno told them about the beginning of his life, shared his experience of studying Russian, and emphasized the importance of music in the spiritual life of every person, especially youth.
