Certification of teachers is an external assessment of the professional competencies of a teacher (including pedagogy and psychology, practical skills in applying modern teaching methods and technologies), which is carried out through independent testing, self-assessment and study of practical work experience.
The certification was carried out in accordance with the Regulation on Certification, approved by the Resolution of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine No. 1190 dated December 27, 2018.
The purpose of the certification is to identify and encourage teachers with a high level of pedagogical excellence who are proficient in competency-based teaching methods and new educational technologies and promote their dissemination.
Teachers participate in the certification on a voluntary basis.
The certification includes three stages:
1) expert assessment of the professional competencies of certification participants by studying their practical experience, organized by the State Education Quality Service and its territorial bodies;
2) self-assessment by the certification participant of his/her own pedagogical skills;
3) assessment of professional knowledge and skills of certification participants through independent testing organized by the Ukrainian Center for Educational Quality Assessment and regional centers.
A commission established under the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine determines the results of the certification of pedagogical workers.
Successful completion of the certification is counted as passing the next (extraordinary) certification by a pedagogical employee with the assignment of the next category of pedagogical employee or confirmation of the existing higher category and a 20% supplement to the salary.
In 2024, teachers of primary school, math, Ukrainian language and history will be able to undergo certification.
