The Future Leaders Exchange Program (FLEX) is a program for high school students from ten countries of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) - Eurasia, funded by the United States government. The program provides students with scholarships that enable them to travel to the United States, study at an American school for one academic year, and live with an American host family.
FLEX was founded in 1992 as a core program of the Eurasian School Initiative of the Freedom Support Act. The program is funded by the United States Department of State. The program was created because of Senator Bill Bradley's belief that the best way to ensure lasting peace and understanding between the United States and the countries of Eurasia is to provide opportunities for young people from these countries to experience America and Americans firsthand. The primary goal of FLEX is to improve mutual understanding between the two countries and to provide opportunities for young people from Eurasia to observe and be a part of the American government. Since the program's inception in 1993, more than 17,000 young people from Eurasia have participated in FLEX and returned to their countries full of new enthusiasm, a desire to help others and share their experience and knowledge to improve life in their communities and countries.
FLEX has been operating in Ukraine since 1993. The competition is organized by the American Councils for International Education with the support of the Ministry of Education of Ukraine. In the Cherkasy region, our gymnasium is the educational institution on the basis of which the project participants are selected. Usually, it is held in September-October.
