1. General Information

The Cervantes Institute is a government institution of Spain, whose main task is to promote the teaching, learning, and use of the Spanish language, as well as the understanding of Spanish culture and the culture of Spanish-speaking countries.
The Institute has centers on four continents in more than 40 countries around the world. Twice a year, the Cervantes Institute conducts international exams on behalf of the Ministry of Education of Spain for the Diplomas of Spanish as a Foreign Language (DELE).
In May 2008, an international DELE exam center was opened at the First Municipal Gymnasium in Cherkasy, becoming the eighth in the network of DELE exam centers in Ukraine and the only one among domestic secondary educational institutions. The coordinator of the Center's work and the head of the examination committee is the Spanish language methodologist V.I. Bereslavska. In 2010 and 2013, teachers V.I. Bereslavska and Y.S. Yegorova participated in online training courses for international Spanish language examiners and, after successfully passing the exam, received certificates from the Cervantes Institute, which grants them the right to conduct the DELE exam at levels A1, A2, B1, B2, and C1 at the First Municipal Gymnasium. Valentina Ivanivna is a Honored Teacher of Ukraine and co-author of Spanish language textbooks for secondary educational institutions in Ukraine.
Since 2008, more than a hundred gymnasium students have successfully passed the DELE exam at the First Municipal Gymnasium in Cherkasy and received Diplomas in Spanish as a Foreign Language (DELE) at levels A1, A2, B1, and B2.
In October 2019, an Agreement was signed between the Cervantes Institute in Madrid and the PMG for the operation of the DELE Center at PMG for three years, until 2022.
2. About the International DELE Center

The Diplomas of Spanish as a Foreign Language (DELE) are official titles that certify the degree of competence and mastery of the Spanish language, awarded by the Cervantes Institute on behalf of the Ministry of Education of Spain.
They are the only officially accredited diplomas in Spanish as a foreign language and as a second language at the corresponding levels, valid for any professional or academic activity in Spain that requires the corresponding level of knowledge, and they are recognized internationally by private companies, chambers of commerce, and public and private systems.
The Diplomas of Spanish (DELE) are evaluated as follows:
- Diploma of Spanish Level A1 (school)
- Diploma of Spanish Level A2/B1 (school)
- Diploma of Spanish Level A1 (general)
- Diploma of Spanish Level A2 (general)
- Diploma of Spanish Level B1 (general)
- Diploma of Spanish Level B2 (general)
- Diploma of Spanish Level C1 (general)
- Diploma of Spanish Level C2 (general)
In the May 2015 examination, the DELE A2/B1 for schoolchildren aged between 11 and 17 was introduced for the first time.
It features a specific characteristic: an exam has two possible results for eligible candidates, as they may receive either a level A2 diploma or a level B1 diploma based on their performance in the various tests.
The exam consists of four parts: Reading comprehension, Listening comprehension, Written expression and interaction, and Oral expression and interaction.
The diplomas obtained by candidates who pass these exams have the same validity as those from the general exams.

In 2021, the exam dates will be:
- May 21 (Friday) – levels A1, A2/B1 for schoolchildren (aged 11 to 17); and May 22 (Saturday) – A1, A2, B1, B2, C1, C2 general exams. The registration period for the exams is open from January until March 17.
- November 12 (Friday) – levels A1, A2/B1 for schoolchildren (aged 11 to 17); and November 13 (Saturday) – A1, A2, B1, B2, C1, C2 general exams. The registration period for the exams is open from January until October 6.
The exams will take place at the First Municipal Gymnasium of Cherkasy.

3. About the Diplomas

Diplomas in Spanish as a Foreign Language are official diplomas that certify the level of proficiency in the Spanish language and are awarded by the Cervantes Institute on behalf of the Ministry of Education of Spain.
These are the only diplomas that officially certify proficiency in Spanish as a foreign language and as a second language at the respective levels; they are valid for any professional and educational activity in Spain that requires proficiency at the corresponding level. The diplomas are recognized worldwide by chambers of commerce and public and private educational institutions.
Diplomas in Spanish as a Foreign Language (DELE) certify the following levels of proficiency:
- Diploma in Spanish A1 (for schoolchildren)
- Diploma in Spanish A2/B1 (for schoolchildren)
- Diploma in Spanish A1 (general)
- Diploma in Spanish A2 (general)
- Diploma in Spanish B1 (general)
- Diploma in Spanish B2 (general)
- Diploma in Spanish C1 (general)
- Diploma in Spanish C2 (general)
Since May 2015, the DELE A2/B1 exam has been conducted for schoolchildren aged 11 to 17 for the first time.
A distinctive feature of the exam is the possibility to obtain, depending on the scores achieved, either an A2 diploma or a B1 diploma.
The exam consists of four tasks: reading, listening, writing, and speaking.
