eTwinning – is a training program of the European Commission launched in 2005 to promote cooperation between European schools. Teachers and students registered in the eTwinning network have the opportunity to implement joint projects with other European schools. A key component of the training is the use of information and communication technologies. The eTwinning project expands the scope of educational opportunities for students and teachers, increases motivation to learn and the degree of openness to Europe.
eTwinning Plus – is a workspace of the eTwinning program within the framework of the European Union's Eastern Partnership.
The eTwinning Plus online network was created to engage the EU's neighboring countries in the project within the framework of the European Neighborhood Policy. The key goal of ENP is to deepen relations between EU members and neighboring countries.
Currently, eTwinning Plus includes: Ukraine, Georgia, and the Republics of Moldova, Armenia, Azerbaijan, and Tunisia. All these countries joined the project in 2013.
Today, eTwinning and eTwinning Plus are:
- 42 participating countries
- 189,292 registered schools
- 517,161 participating teachers
- 66,286 projects!
The eTwinning program and support for schools is implemented by the European Commission and the participating countries. At the EU level, the Central Support Service is responsible for the project. Local support for the project is provided by National Support Services in countries that are members or candidates for accession to the EU or members of the European Free Trade Association; and Partner Support Agencies in countries involved in the European Neighborhood Policy.
The Ministry of Education of Ukraine has selected the Partner Agency to support the program. The PSA in Ukraine facilitates the implementation of the program: promotes the idea of eTwinning, provides training and technical support to participating schools, and organizes special trainings for teachers.
What does Ukraine get from participating in eTwinning Plus?
eTwinning is a powerful incentive to learn foreign languages and improve the use of IT technologies. As part of the program, students also train team building skills and gain experience in creating joint projects. In addition, they learn about the culture of other European countries and make new friends.
In turn, Ukrainian teachers have the opportunity to establish contacts with teachers from other European countries. eTwinning Plus becomes a platform for them to communicate and share experiences, useful information and teaching methods.
Moreover, the eTwinning program is a great opportunity to implement a creative approach to teaching and remind teachers and students that learning and teaching are not only necessary, but also fun!
