2023
Tenth Scientific and Practical Conference, November 24, 2023, Taras Shevchenko Regional Drama Theater
On November 24, the X Scientific and Practical Conference dedicated to the work of M. Dry-Khmara was held. This year's event was organized under a grant from the Mayor of Cherkasy. The peculiarity of the conference is the annual change of location and format, which makes it possible to provide diverse coverage of the life and creative work of our famous countryman, as well as to reveal the creative potential of the participants. Today, the creative and educational event was held at the Cherkasy Regional Music and Drama Theater, where actors showed episodes of Dry-Khmara's life, moving the audience to tears.
The event was joined by Nadiia Yevchak, Deputy Director of the Department of Education and Humanitarian Policy of Cherkasy City Council, Head of the Education Department. It has already become a tradition to see Lyudmyla Yushchenko, Associate Professor of the Department of Preschool Education and Professional Development of Teachers at the CHOIPOPP, PhD in Philology, among the guests of the conference. The creative event brought together participants from educational institutions of Cherkasy and the region. The event was attended by students from schools No. 8, No. 9, No. 22, No. 34, No. 32, No. 6, No. 21, No. 18, No. 28, No. 27, FIMLI,
Horodyshche Economic Lyceum, and Smila V. Senator Educational Complex. A student of the Lyceum of International Relations #51 in Kyiv also expressed her desire to join. Arina Firstenko, a student of the Lyceum of International Relations No. 51 in Kyiv, also expressed her desire to join. Unfortunately, the security situation in our country prevented her from coming. The girl's research can be found here
The participants were asked to choose in advance a form of creative expression and subjective interpretation of M. Dry-Khmara's work: recitation of the artist's poetry, author's work about Dry-Khmara, performance reincarnation.
The PPM gymnasium students visualized the scene of the black tribunal and the last word of the condemned neoclassicist. Matvey Nikishenko, a student of the 10th grade, artfully conveyed the emotions and words that M. Dry-Khmara could have addressed to the punishers. The poem “Before the Portrait of Dry-Khmara” performed by Kateryna Sabadash, a student of the 10th grade, was a kind of summary of the performance.
M. Dry-Khmara's poems “I perceive the whole world with my eyes,” “As long as I am alive, I will not stop,” “Swans,” “To the Village,” “Mother,” and others were read from the stage. The participants used various means of expressing their recitations: music, dance, additional props, etc. But the most important thing was the emotions and depth of understanding of the text with which the children read the works.
The work of M. Dry-Khmara is multifaceted and acquires a new reading and reinterpretation in the mouths of each new generation. Polina Kornienko (vocals), a 10th grade gymnasium student, and a 9th grade creative group demonstrated their sense of poetry in “She”: Ilya Bordagov (solo guitar), Ivan Kobzar (electric guitar), and Artur Biletsky (drums). Their performance was a powerful finale to the conference.
All participants received certificates and themed gifts.
Media about the conference
Mykhailo Dry-Khmara was challenged to resist the totalitarian machine that destroyed everything conscious and human. But he survived without changing his views and beliefs. Our generation is once again fighting the enemy, who consistently tries to wipe out everything Ukrainian from the face of the earth, for whom our language and culture are hostile, and that is why they must become a weapon that will help us defeat the non-humans. Let us be steadfast in our beliefs, preserve the memory of the past, and learn history, because this knowledge will strengthen us as a nation. Let us remember the words of the Dry Cloud: “Everything that has slept until now will come to life and rise, for the water of life will irrigate the dried up root.”
